You must meet the following referral criteria in order to be eligible to receive a service from the Leicester Counselling Centre

  • Be aged 18 years or over
  • Residing within Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland and registered with a GP Surgery
  • Be experiencing mental health, social or emotional difficulties that are causing disruption to daily living
  • Not currently be seeing another counsellor or psychotherapist

It is important that you consider the appropriateness of the Leicester Counselling Centre for your needs before making a referral. For example, we are unable to work with complex or severe mental ill health or provide emergency crisis support if you are suicidal or considering harming yourself. To speak to someone urgently, we would advise contacting your GP, Turning Point’s Crisis Helpline on 0808 800 3302, or Samaritans on 116 123.

If you feel you could benefit from the support of the Leicester Counselling Centre, please contact us initially by telephone so that we can offer you an assessment date (unfortunately, we cannot accept referrals via email or the contact form). You do not need a referral from a health professional as we encourage you to take responsibility for your own engagement. A member of our reception team will take down some brief details and register you on our system. You will then be invited to an initial assessment appointment with one of our senior counsellors.  This provides an opportunity for you to find out more about the service that is available and for us to assess your current needs.

Please inform us if you have any access requirements at this initial stage of contact.
